In 2022, 69 279 medical doctors graduated in the EU, in relative terms there were 15.5 medical doctor graduates for every 100 000 inhabitants. This represents a slight decrease compared with the 2021 ratio of 15.7 medical doctor graduates per 100 000 inhabitants. The highest rates were recorded in Bulgaria (29.5 per 100 000 inhabitants), Malta (27.7) and Latvia (27.5). At the other end of the scale, Slovenia had the lowest rate at 11.4 per 100 000 inhabitants, almost a third of the rate in Bulgaria. Slovenia was followed by Estonia (12.2) and Germany (12.4). At country level, Romania had the highest rate with 9.9 per 100 000 inhabitants, ahead of Portugal (9.1) and Bulgaria (7.8). By contrast, Malta (less than 0.1), Italy (1.4) and the Netherlands (1.5) reported the lowest rates, all below 1.5 dentist graduates per 100 000 inhabitants. Source dataset: hlth_rs_grd2
